Tyres can only be sold in Europe if they feature the REACH quality mark.  This means tyres are safe to use and do not contain toxic substances. The abbreviation REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals and has been in force in Europe since autumn 2010. All Aeolus tyres feature this quality mark.

Aeolus has created a specific formula for companies with trucks and trailers: besides new Aeolus tyres, companies can also choose from Aeolus tyres with a renewed tread. This mix means you perfectly exploit the two life phases of a truck or trailer tyre: as new and renewed tyre. The extended life span helps to significantly reduce your costs.

You should buy new tyres because of the improved safety offered by sufficient profile depth. In addition, new tyres drive better and help to reduce fuel consumption.

There are a number of obvious reasons for replacing tyres.

1. Damage: Damage can be caused by driving against solid objects or sharp edges (pavements, holes in road surfaces, etc.) Your tyre specialist will be able tell you whether damage to the tyre presents a risk to safety.
2. Age: When in use, it is difficult to predict the exact life span of tyres. That is why they should be regularly checked for signs of fatigue, dehydration and ageing. Tyres that are (too) old may lose grip, which presents a risk to safety.
3. Wear and tear: Regularly check, or instruct someone else to check, the profile depth on your tyres. In most countries, the legal minimum profile depth is 1.6 mm. However, Aeolus recommends that tyres be replaced as soon as profile depth reaches 2.0 mm. This means you will always drive safely and prevents you from breaking the law when your tyres are replaced a little too late. Please note: the rules for profile depth also apply to reserve tyres! Always consult your Aeolus dealer.

Yes, because the balance will change once a new tyre is placed on the wheel rim. It is thus essential to have the wheels balanced. This is important for driving comfort and good vehicle and tyre performance, as well as for safety, wear and tear and predictable steering and braking behaviour. Your tyre specialist will be able to evaluate whether it is necessary to check alignment.

All tyres feature a production date. This helps to ensure that your tyres are not too old. That said, tyres can have a long life span if they are correctly stored. The DOT number indicates the production date. The side of the tyre features a 4-figure number (which is preceded by the abbreviation ‘DOT’). These four figures refer to the production date: The first two figures identify the week (from 01 to 52) and the last two the year of production

The Aeolus site also offers assistance when selecting tyres for passenger vehicles. In this case, you should look out for the load-bearing capacity, maximum speed limit and the dimensions. Your instruction booklet will mention which tyre size or sizes can be used on your vehicle. A tyre’s load-bearing capacity indicates the maximum weight that can be exerted on the tyre. You will not immediately notice signs of overloading and excessive speed – thus higher than permitted – on your tyres. However, overloading has the same impact on the tyre as insufficient air pressure.  Tyres will wear out faster and the risk of a flat tyre will increase! If you are overly careless and have excessive load, insufficient air pressure, high speed and a high external temperature (like in southern countries), you will be exposing yourself to irresponsible risks. It is always wise to regularly check your tyres and remove any stones from the profile. If you are going to store the tyres, for example, after changing from summer to winter tyres and vice versa, it is wise to clean them with soap and clean water. When cleaning your tyres on the wheel trim using a high-pressure cleaner, make sure you retain a distance of 20 cm. You may otherwise damage the side of the tyre or spray dirt between the tyre and the wheel rim, which may cause the tyre to slip on the wheel rim.

The start of summer time is a simple way to remember when to switch to summer tyres.  In some countries, winter tyres are subject to special legal requirements; your Aeolus dealer can inform you about what is necessary. In countries without legislation for the use of winter tyres, the rule of thumb is to change in the period between mid-October and the end of October. However, if you travel to countries subject to these legal requirements, you must comply with the requirements in question. Your Aeolus dealer will also be able to advise you.

You must remember a few rules when storing your tyres after changing them. Tyres that are stored on the wheel rim should be stacked on top of each other on a flat surface or should be hung up; never place them upright. Tyres without the wheel rim should be placed upright, although they can also be stored horizontally. Tyres must always be stored in a dry, cool and dark place. If you do not store your tyres correctly, their physical properties will change and their life span and safety will be reduced

A new tyre label is in effect since 1 November 2012, whereby the European Union uses three criteria to assist consumers when choosing their (car) tyres:

• rolling resistance (major impact on fuel consumption)
• grip on the road surface (safety)
• noise level (noise hinder for the surroundings).

The aim of the EU label is to improve safety on European roads and to reduce the impact of car travel on the environment.

1. Fuel consumption is greatly influenced by the type of tyres on your car and their rolling resistance. This is important for your wallet as well as the environment. Of course, higher fuel consumption means higher CO2 emissions.
2. The label also indicates how much grip a tyre offers on wet surfaces compared to other tyres. This capacity is then expressed as a letter representing a particular class. This is the same as the indicator for electricity consumption in electrical devices. In the case of tyres, the difference between class A and class F means one can expect 18 metres additional braking distance in wet weather at a speed of 80 km/h.
3. The third indicator on the label represents the noise produced by the tyres. Noisy tyres are not only a nuisance for passengers, but also for the surroundings. Unlike the class indications for fuel consumption and grip, the noise level is expressed in decibels.

Te EU tyre label is no more than an indicator; it is not an adequate replacement for effective testing information or good advice from a tyre specialist. For example, the EU label does not say anything about how a tyre behaves in winter conditions. You should thus try to gather as much information as possible when selecting your tyres.

Make sure you don’t find an unpleasant surprise when you need your spare tyre. Does the tyre contain enough air? Do you have the right bolts with you? Does the tyre have the minimum profile depth? Do you have a jack and tools in the car? By answering these questions, you will be able to avoid high costs for a mobile breakdown service and will be able to quickly resume your journey.

Cars only come into contact with the road surface via four pieces of rubber as wide as a standard postcard. This contact helps you to steer, brake and accelerate. You should thus always ensure that your tyres have an appropriate profile. In case of doubt, seek advice from an Aeolus specialist.

Wherever possible, you should drive on to a pavement slowly and in a straight line.  You should also avoid bumping into high curb stones as this can cause hidden damage to the tyres.  This can also have a negative impact on the tyre’s reliability and safety. Regularly check your tyres to see if they are damage or objects are stuck in them.

Aeolus always advises you to have tyres mounted by a specialist. A specialist will have the right tools and equipment and will ensure that tyres are correctly mounted on to the wheel rim, that the rotation direction is respected and that wheel rims are mounted with the right amount of pressure on the bolts.

Tyre pressure has a major impact on fuel consumption. You will consume less fuel when the pressure is correct than when it is insufficient. In general, you should check the pressure every four weeks. In case of intensive use (long journey, high speed, heavy load), you should perform an additional check on the pressure.  Manufacturers mention the required tyre pressure in the instruction booklet and (often) in the car itself. Always respect the indicated levels.

You should note that:

• the tyre is cold when you measure the pressure.
• heightened pressure is completely normal when driving and does not need to be corrected.
• the pressure of tyres on the same axle must be identical.
• pressure can differ between front and rear axel.
• valve caps are tightened sufficiently to protect the valve from dust and dirt. This helps to prevent leaks.
• defect valve caps are replaced immediately

To find out whether your Aeolus tyres can be re-profiled, you only need to look at the side of the tyres (in which case, you will see the word ‘regroovable’). Alternatively, you can contact your Aeolus dealer.

Depending on the type of tyre and its load, re-profiling can help to improve kilometre capacity by up to 30%.  In addition, the new profile gives tyres lower rolling resistance, which in-turn helps to realise fuel savings. If re-profiling is performed correctly, tyres can be used on the rear axel(s) without any problems.

Whether a tyre qualifies for tread renewal is determined by the size and the type.  In addition, Aeolus will always first inspect the carcase to check whether tread renewal will serve a purpose. In such cases, always first contact your nearest Aeolus dealer.

Tyres that undergo tread renewal are ready for their second life phase. In terms of use, these tyres are comparable with new tyres. However, they will cost you less because you do not have to pay for the basis of the new tyre – the casing.

Wave-forming on the sides of tyres is a normal phenomenon with radial tyres. This is merely an aesthetic issue, which has no impact on the tyre's performance. How visible these waves are will be determined by the height/width ratio of the tyres and signs will be more visible at a higher tyre pressure. However, should you encounter bumps on the side of the tyre, you should visit an Aeolus dealer for an inspection. Look here for your nearest Aeolus dealer.

Vibrations indicate that your vehicle has a problem that requires attention. The tyres, steering column and suspension/shock absorbers must be checked to detect potential reasons for the vibrations. If you fail to address the vibrations, this will increase wear and tear on the tyres and the suspension. You will thus endanger yourself and your fellow road users.

The Aeolus designations are made up of three letters and two digits:

• The first letter is always A – which stands for Aeolus, the manufacturer. 
• The second letter provides the instruction on the intended axle position. 
• The third letter denotes the type of use/purpose. 

The two digits which follow are the sequence number for the tyres.
